What is
USIMexplorer?
USIMexplorer
is a quick, easy to use tool to read data stored on any 2G SIM or 3G USIM card.
USIMexplorer
not only locates and displays data, but it is able to automatically
translate raw hex bytes into meaningful information according to the
3GPP TS 31.XXX specification suite.
The only hardware
required is a PC/SC compatible card reader (supplied).

Why is
USIMexplorer better than other tools?
Most tools on the market,
which read data from SIM/USIM cards are supplied by companies who also manufacturer
USIM cards. Very often, when those tools are used to work with other
manufacturers' USIM product, many problems can arise - even though the
(U)SIM
is a standard item. Quantaq is a third party to all card
manufacturers. As such, we make sure
USIMexplorer
operates with any SIM/USIM, no matter the manufacturer.
We believe
USIMexplorer
is the easiest to use of all SIM/USIM viewing/editing tools on the market. Our
years of experience tells us that most people want a simple, easy to use
tool, which can be used intuitively by anyone to view SIM/USIM data in seconds
USIMexplorer provides that high level of user experience.
Not only that, we believe
that
USIMexplorer offers the best data views ever seen - clear, and
accurate data translation, which also easily customised for proprietary
files.
Quantaq's mission is make
very powerful, but incredibly easy to use tools, and with
USIMexplorer, we
have fulfilled this mission once again.

What do I need in order to use
USIMexplorer?

How is it possible to view
the contents of a USIM file immediately, without scanning first?
After analysing many products on the market,
we saw that most products required to fully scan the
SIM/USIM
before any of the data content could be
viewed. These scans took 2 minutes or more
on some tools!
Clearly, for users requiring to work with
many cards, this was highly inconvenient, so we
made sure
USIMexplorer
would locate and display the card content you wanted as soon
as you wanted it.
The
way
USIMexplorer does this is to offer the
user a template view of the file system.
This appears semi-transparently to indicate
that the files may or may not be present on
the USIM. When the user clicks on a file,
USIMexplorer immediately retrieves and displays
the data content if the file exists, or
removes the icon otherwise. |

 |
Of course if you prefer to have a complete
scan of the entire card, file system, simply
click on the 3G scan button... |

How does
USIMexplorer deal with proprietary files?
Many
SIM/USIM cards available today have special proprietary files built into
the structure. Because of their nature, these files are not specified
in the global standards. Instead they are specified by the network
operator or service provider.
Rather than hard coding
the standards intelligence into
USIMexplorer, we chose to make this
information available to the user via a suite of configuration
files. These are formatted text files which can be read and modified
using any text editor (e.g. Windows Notepad).
Using this capability
it is very easy to add in new file intelligence into
USIMexplorer.
This includes where the files sit in the overall file system and
also the data translation of the file content.

What if the GSM specifications change?
|

|
Whenever the 3GPP specifications are updated, Quantaq free-issues
updates to our customer base for the first 2 years, then by an
inexpensive support agreement thereafter.
Our
customers are also free to make changes themselves if they prefer.

Can I edit data on the USIM?
USIMexplorer is a tool to view data only.. If you wish to edit
data, we recommend you purchase SIM Commander, an easy to use
scripting tool for communicating with any SIM/USIM card. With this tool you can
edit any data you like, provided you have met the appropriate file
access conditions.
|
 |

How does scanning work?
|
USIMexplorer
knows what to look for and will if
instructed perform an exhaustive scan of data on the SIM/USIM.
What's more, you are not limited to the known 3GPP file structure - you
can add in proprietary files to be scanned for as well.
Even better than
that, you can set up any number of "user defined" scans
that will, on command, scan specific sets of files. Using this
approach you can reduce your scan time enormously - only scanning
for what you specifically want at the time. |
